Pulse Appliance
The Pulse appliance is a turnkey NixOS device that runs the Pulse server out of the box. Plant operators and on-site IT staff manage it through a terminal user interface (TUI) on the console — there is no need to log in to a shell or edit configuration files by hand.
How to reach the TUI
- On the console: the appliance auto-logs in as the
pulseuser on tty1 and launches the TUI directly. Plug in a monitor and keyboard to use it locally. - Over the network: SSH into the appliance as the
pulseuser. The TUI starts automatically on login.
In this section

- TUI Reference — every menu item the operator sees on the console, in one place.
- TLS Certificates — manage the certificate the web interface presents to browsers.
- SFTP Access — onboard customer SFTP keys for file exchange.
- SSH Access — grant support engineers shell access to the appliance.
- System Updates — apply a signed update bundle from USB, CD/DVD-ROM, or SFTP, with automatic backup and rollback.
- Operations — take database backups and roll back to a previous version.
